Noida: Notice against people to refrain from disrupting work at landfill

After the repeated protests at the site, the district administration on Saturday issued a notice to the residents and villagers to maintain law and order and refrain from disruption of construction work of the landfill in Sector-123 in Noida.

According to the cops of the Phase-3 police station, the residents and villagers are constantly interrupting the construction work of the landfill.

The Noida Authority again started the construction work of dump yard amidst tight security. The landfill is situated right next to the proposed waste-to-energy plant in Sector-123.

“We have received a list of 36 people who have been protesting against the construction of the landfill. The protests disturbed the peace in the area. Following which, we have issued notices under section 111 of CrPC to fill two personal bonds of Rs 50,000 as a promise to maintain peace during the construction of the landfill,” said Mahender Singh, City Magistrate Noida.

Singh said that if these people fail to follow the order then we will not return their money and we will also take action against them under the IPC section of 151, 107 and 116.

The Noida Authority started construction of landfill for the purpose of dumping the city’s waste at a vacant plot in Sector-123 of Noida. But, residents of sectors 117 to 122 and nearby villagers are against it.

The decision to construct landfill was taken by the Authority after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued an interim order on May 29 directing it to immediately stop dumping waste at a forest located in Sector-54.

On the other hand, many other residents living in the nearby high rises, independent houses and villages were found to be against the selection of landfill site.

They were of the view that the Authority wanted to emulate the chaos of Ghazipur landfill in future. They said that the landfill will lead to many health problems to them, their children and coming generation.

“We will conduct a protest march against the decision of the Noida Authority to make the landfill and waste to energy plant in the area. We will not let them complete the construction work,” Anupam Oberoi, a resident, said.
