On June 14, the Noida Authority started dumping the city waste at disputed land in Sector-123. Following which, the residents blocked the road for two hours and conducted the protest against the local MP, MLA, government and the authority.
This step has been undertaken by the authority after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued an interim order on May 29 directing it to immediately stop dumping waste at a forest located in Sector 54.
But, the authority continued to dump the waste at Sector-54. Then, the residents had filed contempt of court case against the Noida Authority at the NGT. This had prompted the Authority to stop dumping there as the NGT had also issued contempt of court notice against them on Thursday. The hearing will be done on July 19.
On the other hand, residents of Noida and Noida Extension including high rises and villages have also planned to move to court against the Sector-123 dump yard. On Monday, residents and some political parties will conduct a huge protest outside the Noida Authority or district administration.
According to the solid waste management rules, 2016, a landfill site should be situated at a distance of 100 meters from a riverbed, and 200 meters from water bodies, highways, habitations, public parks and water supply wells. However, the dumping site is located at a distance of no more than 175 meters from our societies.
