To check rampant electricity theft in Ghaziabad, teams constituted by the administration are conducting secret raids and collecting fines from the users. The “Vidyut Vitaran Nigam” had started the mass raid campaign on May 15 and they have collected more than Rs 85 lakh as fine from power thieves till June 5.
The raid campaign against power thieves will continue in the next five months. Now, there will be no respite to the people who illegally use electricity to light up their homes, shops and business establishments.
When the teams get information about power thefts, they are immediately doing raids at those places. So far, the teams have conducted raids in 23 areas of the city. In the last twenty days, twelve teams have conducted raids at almost 3,000 houses.
A total of 12 teams have been constituted on the directions of the administration to conduct raids in the area. The district magistrate is spearheading the mass raid campaign whereas officials such as additional district magistrate, chief engineer and superintendent of police rural have been incorporated in the teams.
The teams are conducting secret raids in urban as well as rural areas. Stern actions have also been taken against power thieves during the secret raids. This mass raid campaign will continue till October 15.
An official of Vidyut Vitaran Nigam, AK Chowdhary, said, “This campaign is being carried out at circle level as well. Actions have been taken against power thieves. The circle’s superintendent engineer, sub-divisional officer and junior engineers have also been included in the teams.”
“The teams are carrying out raids in association with the area’s police and administration officials. The secret raids are being monitored by ADG, vigilance. He is also taking the details of raids on a daily basis,” said Chowdhary.
