Gurgaon to get new bus depot as Haryana cabinet transfers govt land to MCG

The city of Gurgaon may soon get a new bus depot as four acres of government land was transferred by the Haryana cabinet to the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on Saturday. The transferred land is situated at Pawla Khusrupur village near Palam Vihar in Gurgaon.

The announcement of land transfer was done at the administrative headquarters in Chandigarh.

As per the officials of the Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL), the new bus depot will become operational in the next year. The new depot may accommodate the first batch of 100 electric AC buses which will be arriving at the time of its opening.

The total construction cost for the bus depot is estimated at Rs 12 crore. The expenses will be borne by the state government.

“Four acres of land gives us enough space for accommodating 100-110 buses. We want to thank the state government for giving its nod to our proposal,” Chandra Shekhar Khare, chief executive officer, GMCBL, said.
There are three other bus depots which are under construction in sectors 10, 48 and 53. They are expected to become operational by August.

“We have studied the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) model. The department is struggling to find space for building new depots to accommodate its growing fleet of buses. Hence, to avoid such a situation, the GMCBL has earmarked nine locations for setting up bus depots in the city. We will need more space to accommodate buses as we expand our network,” a GMCBL official said.

Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) are having 50%, 40%, and 10% respectively in the project.

The construction of bus depot will be done by the MCG and GMCBL together.
