Delhi police is mulling new initiative to hold morning briefing of beat constables at open places instead of police stations. The idea was discussed in a meeting chaired by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday.
“Chaired Law & Order meeting. Reviewed current system of beat policing. Advised leveraging latest tech to empower beat officials. Also directed to improve visibility & making them multi-functional. Encouraged initiatives like briefing beat staff in public & visiting senior citizens,” LG tweeted after attending the meeting with senior police officials.
According to a Delhi police official, it would a first its kind initiative where morning and evening police briefing sessions would be held at open areas instead of police stations.
“Station House Officers (SHOs) of each police station in the national capital would be conducting briefing of beat inspectors of their particular police stations at parks, garden, near school, market area etc. Briefing of morning and evening would be held at different places,” he added.
Sanjeev Kumar, a police official posted in Delhi Police Headquarter (PHQ), told City Spidey on phone, “The idea was to reach out to the residents and have a regular communication with them. It’s an advanced level of community policing of Delhi police where residents and local RWAs can interact with police officials in their areas.”
As per the information, this initiative will kick start from East Delhi. Mangesh Tyagi, SHO Pandav Nagar (East Delhi) talking to City Spidey said, “We will start morning briefings in next one or two weeks. It will help in reducing daily petty crime incidents in localities and residents will feel more secure.”
