The resident welfare association (RWA) of Palam Vihar demanded an immediate reduction of water tariff from the chief minister. The RWA had the problems with the water bill sent by Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) for the period of December 2017 to March 2018.
In the bill, the residents were charged Rs 10 per kilolitre which was in line with the revised tariff set by the Haryana government.

The government had revised tariff Rs 2.5 per kilolitre up to 15 kilolitres, Rs 4 per kilolitre up to 20 kilolitres and Rs 10 per kilolitre for consumption above Rs 20 per kilolitre in June 2017.
The average consumption at each household every month is over 20 kilolitres.
After the demands and protest by residents, the government revised the water tariff to Rs 2.5/kilolitre up to 10 kilolitres, Rs 5/kilolitre up to 20 kilolitres and Rs 8/kilolitre up to 30 kilolitres and Rs 10/kilolitre for consumption higher than 30 kilolitres.
“We (association) pay Huda Rs 10/kilolitre for 30 kilolitres, which is the maximum tariff slab. We maintain distribution line and pay electricity bills for boosting as well, so, it costs us Rs 12/kilolitre. This is high and unfair, as Huda treats us as individual users,” Sunil Yadav, president of Palam Vihar RWA, said.
“We want Huda to treat the association as a bulk user and charge us Rs2.5/kilolitre or, we want the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) take over the water supply, on the lines of supply in Sushant Lok. We are waiting for Huda to redress our grievances,” said Yadav.
Ashok Katyal, a resident, said, “Why would Huda charge the association Rs10/kilolitre? In this case, the association would have to charge each household Rs12-13/kilolitre, which is unfair. We want Huda to revise it or MCG to take over the colony.”
