PM Modi set to inaugurate first phase of Delhi-Meerut Expressway on Sunday


The first phase of the newly completed Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. Thereafter, the PM will travel in an open jeep on the 6-km long expressway stretch. Later on, he will fly to Baghpat for inaugurating the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.

The first leg of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, which stretches from East Delhi’s Ghazipur to the Uttar Pradesh border will be closed from 8 am to 12:30 pm on Sunday as PM Modi's road show will commence from the Yamuna bridge and continue till Ghazipur.


A traffic police official however claimed that the National Highway 24, which runs parallel to the Expressway from Ghazipur to Nizamuddin, will remain open for the commuters.”

The first phase of the expressway has been built at the cost of Rs. 841 crore. Vertical gardens have been built all over the expressway and solar systems are being installed near Akshardham and all over the Yamuna bridge. Further, beautiful lighting systems have also been developed on the major structures. Apart from all these, there is a cycle track on both sides of the expressway.


“Almost 90 percent work on installing solar panels has been completed and the remaining work near Akshardham will be completed soon,” said Vijay Singla, a NHAI official.

The opening of the first phase of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway will provide a major relief to the commuters of Delhi and Noida
