Operation Pink: Three arrested for harassing women, schoolgirls in Greater Noida


As part of Gautam Budh Nagar police’s Operation Pink, 3 people were arrested from Greater Noida for making lewd gestures and passing comments at women and schoolgirls on Thursday.

Operation Pink was launched on May 1 and women constables dressed in plain clothes went around crowded areas in Noida and Greater Noida in an attempt to crack down on people who harass women.
According to the police, the accused have been identified as Vinod Kumar, Naresh, and Kuldeep.

“The teams that have been formed to roam around in civil clothes caught them for passing comments on girls and handed them over to the Kasna police team. They have been booked under Section 294 (obscene act and songs) of Indian Penal Code and sent to judicial custody,” said a senior police officer.

The police teams have arrested around fifteen people under the ‘Operation Pink’ campaign till date.

In Noida, the police teams will be deployed in Film City, Sector 18, Atta Market, DLF Mall, City Centre metro station, Amity University, HCL Company, JSS Academy, Shopprix Mall, etc.

In Greater Noida, the police personnel will be monitoring Delta-1, Surajpur, Knowledge Park, Alfa Commercial Belt, Rampur Market, Kasna Bus Stand, Kisan Inter College, City Plaza, Kanya Inter College, etc.

As per a senior police official, an assessment drive was conducted in the first week and action drive is being undertaken now. On the basis of assessment drive, the teams have divided these spots in Grade 1 (sensitive) like schools and deserted areas and Grade 2 (less sensitive) like posh areas.

The teams, headed by the nodal officer, SP (crime) Preeti Bala Gupta, will have one inspector, five sub-inspectors and 78 women constables.

“Movements of people will be noted and the suspects and harassers will be dealt with accordingly. The teams would be moving around the cities in 15 SUVs and four bikes. These teams have been divided into clusters of seven and eight and will be deployed in rural and urban areas accordingly. On the first four days of the drive, the teams will move around the cities from noon to 8 pm, and from 8 am to 4 pm over the next three days,” said a senior police officer.
