Now, the commuters of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses can use their Metro cards to pay for bus tickets in more than 2,400 buses plying on the different routes across Delhi-NCR. The Delhi government had made this facility available in 250 of the DTC buses in January this year.
A senior official in DTC said, “The electronic ticketing machines (ETM) have been given in more than 2,400 buses. Now, they will accept the Metro cards for payments. By the end of June, the commuters will be able to buy tickets using Metro cards in all of the DTC buses.”
The transport department of the Delhi government is currently operating over 5,000 buses on city’s roads. Out of the 5,000 buses, 3,800 are DTC buses (Low floor buses) while rest are cluster buses (Yellow).
The bus commuters holding metro smart cards will have to give their smart card to the conductor after boarding the bus for buying tickets. The conductor will swipe it on ETM and a paper ticket printed with details of fare and destination will roll out.
