NDMC proposes race on World Bicycle Day; online registration to open soon


To celebrate World Bicycle Day with all grandeur, a large-scale cycle race will be organised by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in the national capital on June 3. Many eminent personalities including union ministers and sportspersons will be present on the occasion.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar will also grace the grand event in Delhi.

According to an NDMC official, the eight kilometres “cycle race with fun” will commence from Connaught Place and end at Teen Murti Road at 11 am.

O P Jaipuriya, an official with NDMC talking to City Spidey said, “It would be first its kind cycle race in Delhi where people from diverse fields will be present. We are preparing a complete blueprint for the event and would upload on NDMC’s website for the people in next one or two days.”

As per the officials, the idea is to motivate people towards fitness and use of cycle in their daily lives.

“People would be able to participate in the race. Those who are willing to participate in the race will have to apply by registering online on the NDMC’s official website. The registration will start in next two days,” officials said.

“Participants will have to pay a minimal charge for booking. The participants would be felicitated with a certificate from NDMC. We have also planned awards for winners but all these things are yet to be finalised.”

It has also been informed that NDMC has floated a tender in this regard to hire 2,000 bicycles.
