Diversion of traffic from the main roads towards service lanes of Dwarka has created a new headache for the area’s residents. The problem is more persistent in sectors whose service lanes run parallel to the main roads.
Sector 7 is one such area where heavy and commercial vehicles consistently use the service lanes instead of the main road to avoid the traffic signals at Sector 1.
Former joint secretary of Harsukh apartments, Sector 7, Ravi Jaitely said, “Our service lane is the worst affected by this practice. Vehicles going towards Sector 9 take a short cut from Rishikul International School and drive through the service lane in front of our societies. We have to face a lot of chaotic traffic during the morning and evening hours.”
Further, societies in Sector 9, Sector 3 and Sector 22 too are affected with the same problem.
Residents allege that apart from service lanes, several vehicles also use the internal roads of the societies. They further allege that this practice is followed by people to avoid traffic signals and use short cuts to reach their destination.
The subject has been raised several times by the RWAs and managements of societies in various meetings held between the police and the public.
“There must be a permanent solution as service lanes have been built for convenience and not to create chaos. Even some accidents have been reported from several areas after many vehicles were found to be exceeding the speed limit. Although none of the accidents were fatal, yet some serious injuries took place,” said RK Sharma a resident of Sector 3.
When City Spidey spoke to traffic Inspector Dharam Pal Singh on the matter, he claimed that adequate initiatives would be undertaken to resolve the problem.
