To address the air pollution woes in the city, lieutenant governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday directed Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to carry out afforestation at parks, green belts, roadsides, and on the Yamuna floodplains.
The L-G emphasised on enhancing green areas by taking up vertical gardens on flyovers, buildings, sports complexes etc. He will also monitor the progress of afforestation activity carried out by the DDA.
The DDA has finalised action plans for large-scale afforestation by planting nearly 4.15 lakh seedlings of indigenous varieties in various parks, green belts, roadsides, central verge, biodiversity parks and Yamuna floodplains.
The plantation activity will be carried out in the coming season. At Yamuna floodplains, the afforestation will be done as part of rejuvenation and restoration.
DDA has also permitted compensatory afforestation on the land in Yamuna floodplains where trees have been wiped out for various developmental works related to NHAI (National Highway Authority of India), ITPO (Indian Trade Promotion Organisation) and DMICDC (Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation).
