Gurgaon’s popular Adarsh Park all set for an open-air gym

Open-air gyms are all the rage and MCG plans to start one at Adarsh Park of Sector 46 in 10 days’ time. Of the 17 parks in the sector, it is the largest one and has maximum visitors.

The gym, which will be free for all, is to have 10 categories of fitness equipment, including air walkers, sit-up benches, air swings, stair steppers, pull-up chairs, exercise bars, cross walkers and rowing machines.

“We have bought the gym equipment from Meerut, and will get them installed within 10 days. The equipment does not need maintenance. And if there are minor issues, a technical person will attend to those,” confirmed Ajay Nirala, MCG executive engineer. Gurgaon News

All machines will be installed on concrete slabs, making it impossible for anyone to move them. They will also of course be weather-proof.

The MCG had set up an open-air gym along the Sector 44/45 dividing road three years ago, and this inspired other residential areas to start such gyms in their complexes.

For long, residents had been requesting the councillor to set up such open-air gyms. “Residents often have to shell out a lot of money on gym membership, and also travel quite a bit to get to the gym. So, we wanted a gym be set up in our area,” said KK Yadav, former RWA president of the area.

A team from the MCG inspected the 17-year-old sector and selected the park to set up the facility. The area houses around 1,700 residents.

“This is the largest sector in Ward 29, and we chose this park as it has been well-maintained and residents are keen to use the open gym. The MCG has spent Rs 1.5 lakh on equipment purchase,” area councillor Kuldeep Yadav said.
