PM to lay foundation stone for Dwarka Expressway this month

If the claims of Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh are to be believed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Dwarka Expressway sometime this month, though no definite date was disclosed.

Road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari too corroborated claims during a press event on Wednesday.

“Once the foundation stone is laid, the project will be completed within two years,” confirmed Inderjit.

As it happens, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, too, had confirmed in a statement some time earlier that the PM is expected to arrive this month in Haryana for the inauguration of the Kundil-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway.

Dwarka Expressway is being built at a whopping cost of Rs 7,000 crore, and the 29 km stretch will commence from Kherki Daula toll till the Shiv Murti situated beside the NH 48 in New Delhi

Of the 29 km, 18.9 km comes under Haryana and the remaining 10.1 km in New Delhi. The expressway will include a railway over bridge (ROB), 10 underpasses and four interchange junctions, at the Shiv Murti, Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), Dwarka and sector 84/88 dividing road in Manesar.

Aside from a boon to the residential townships based on the expressway, the project will also assist Gurgaon residents to reach the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

The Dwarka expressway was announced in 2007 by HUDA. It was taken over by NHAI in 2016, but land litigation in New Palam Vihar put work on the back-burner.

Owing to the delay, thousands of homebuyers who have invested in residential complexes on the expressway have been holding protests frequently for nearly a decade now.

Hopefully, they will find some respite in the announcement of foundation ceremony.

Homebuyers feel that inauguration of the project by the PM will help in fast-tracking of litigation issues and other hurdles, as the matter will have attention from the government top brass.
