A group of parents of children studying in DPS Indirapuram have decided to share school books instead of buying them every year from the school. Further, they have claimed that there was no point in buying fresh books every year as it is a wastage of both paper and money.
The parents have already started looking for donors apart from recipients to share old books through WhatsApp groups.
“This initiative will not only save paper but also help students understand the value of old items which can be reused. Most of the books can be reused by the students who have been admitted to the new classes as the course is not always changed,” said Priyanka Rana, president of DPS Indirapuram Parents Welfare Association. There have been several complaints about private schools overcharging for books and forcing parents to buy stationery items from schools. Group members however denied that the initiative is aimed at the school management’s overcharging for books or selling other stationery items at the school.
“I have two kids studying at a private school and I have to shell out around ten thousand rupees every year only for books and stationery items. I am unable to buy stationery items from the market where they are available at cheaper rates,” said a parent.
