Five construction workers were injured when a portion of scaffolding at Cleo County, an under-construction high-rise in Sector 121, Noida, fell on them. The incident, which could be a case of negligence, has left one worker critically injured and others with minor injuries.
Majai Sheikh, 30, was admitted to Shivalik Hospital in Sector 51 with severe head injuries, while his fellow workers, Mahijul Alam, Vinod Rishi and Abdul Sattar were admitted to Om Hospital in Sector 66. Another worker, Raju, was released from Shivalik Hospital after first aid. "The scaffolding was not set up properly, due to which the incident happened," workers at the site said.
According to one, the scaffolding suddenly came off and fell on the unsuspecting workers.
According to Sheikh's family members, the builder is taking care of the medical expenses. Sheikh has been shifted to Avantika Hospital in Indirapuram for further treatment. “Shivalik Hospital did not have an X-Ray machine, which is why we shifted him to Avantika Hospital,” an official of the builder said.
Vijay Sharma, site engineer of the project, said that one worker was injured, but denied that the scaffolding fell on the worker.
Dr MA Khan, a doctor at Om Hospital, told City Spidey that the workers admitted there had minor injuries on arms and legs. "They will be released after first aid," Khan said.
Amit Singh, SO of the Phase 3 police station, told City Spidey that the cause of the incident was still unknown. However, the scaffolding did collapse from the 28th floor of the building. “We have not received any complaint so far,” Singh said.
