Unknown assailants shot dead the deputy general manager of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) on Wednesday night at a secluded stretch in Noida. No arrests have been made till now. Police found the body on Thursday evening.
The incident took place in Sector 105 when Amit Pandey, 41, was on his way home at Sapphire Tower 2 in Hazipur village of Noida.
Police said Pandey had been missing since he left office on Wednesday, following which a missing complaint was filed by his brother-in-law Prabhat Dwivedi at Sector 39 police station on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, Pandey’s colleagues had also launched a search for him with help from police. And at around 4.30 pm, his body was found near a drain in Sector 105, almost 20 hours after he went missing.
According to Pandey's friends and colleagues, he used to travel via Metro to his office, and would walk the 8-km stretch from City Centre Metro Station to his residence.
“When Amit went missing, we looked in every hospital of Noida and Delhi, which is connected via the office metro route, but we found nothing. Then we started checking the route which Amit would take from his Metro stop to home. And at 4.40 pm, we found his body near a drain at a deserted stretch of road in Sector 105,” recounted Sanjay Singh, an employee at BHEL office, Lodhi Road.
According to police, one bullet injury was found on his body, which has been sent for post-mortem.
“A bullet injury was found on the body between his neck and chest. We have sent the body for post-mortem, and an FIR has been lodged against unknown persons for murder. We will make arrests soon,” said Avnish Dixit, station house officer, police station of Sector 39.
The family members of Pandey are expected to reach Noida by Friday.
Pandey was a native of Banaras and was living alone in his apartment, divorced from his wife a few years ago. He had no children.
