In a bid to bring down accidents caused by underage driving, the Gurgaon administration has decided to conduct a strict drive to curb the practice. School administrations, too, will be part of this drive. The decision was taken during a road safety meeting held at the mini-secretariat on Monday, chaired by deputy commissioner (DC) Vinday Pratap Singh. Gurgaon news
A letter will also be written to district schools to ensure that students are discouraged from driving to school, as it not only puts their life at risk, but also others’ on the road.
As part of the drive, anyone below the permitted age found driving will be penalised and challans issued to school students. Parents of students have also been asked to cooperate.
The DC also ordered strict enforcement of NGT directions pertaining to environment norms to be followed by vehicles.
At the meeting, ACP traffic Usha Kundu also asked RSOs, or road safety officers, to interact with school students during parent-teacher meetings to educate them on safety procedures and take measures to enforce rules more strictly around schools.
