Dwarka markets use online booster pumps in violation of DJB norms

In open violation of Delhi Jal Board norms, markets of Dwarka have been using booster pumps openly to draw water from ground or an existing water connection.

Extraction of underground water is not allowed under DJB rules — neither is the use of online booster pumps to draw water from municipal supply. Such rampant use of booster pumps impact the supply to societies in the vicinity of the markets.

Recently, the DJB had ordered societies in Dwarka to remove all online booster pumps and several societies have already started removing them. But what about those outside the societies?

Arvind Rudra, a resident of Sector 4, said, “Online use of booster pumps is not legal — in fact, it’s an offence. If they are doing so, the DJB must put an end to it immediately or else the supply to the other societies will be affected.”

During a recce of markets in Dwarka, one finds booster pumps with water metre on them. According to local people, “Those with metres are legal DJB connections, and those without are illegal.”

In some markets where there is no connection, people have taken connection from the adjacent DDA Pockets, or have connected lines with pumps directly from the mainline. RK Sharma, a resident of Sector 5, complained, “The authority knows full well what’s happening. If they can issue notices for removal of booster pumps in residential areas and pockets, why not the markets!”

The matter has been discussed on various forums, and people unanimously feel all such online pumps must be removed. Dwarka News

Secretary of Federation of CGHS, V Selvarajan, said, “Societies are removing booster pumps, but online booster pumps outside the societies must be removed too. Law should be the same for all.”
