Rehan Gupta, the six-year-old boy who was kidnapped by two bike-borne assailants from a private school van on the morning of January 25 from Delhi’s GTB Enclave area, was rescued by Delhi police from Sahibabad (UP) well after midnight yesterday.
According to information, the crime branch of Delhi police rescued the child after a fierce gun battle with kidnappers between 12 pm to 1 am last night. Delhi News
Rakesh Kumar, a police officer from Sahibabad police station, told City Spidey on phone that one kidnapper, identified as Ravi, was shot dead, while two others, identified as Pankaj and Nitin, were injured.
They were hiding in a flat located Shalimar City, located between Sahibabad and Wazirabad.
“The shootout lasted for almost an hour, after which Delhi police managed to rescue the child safely. Before we could reach the spot, Delhi police had already rescued the child,”Kumar added.
Gagenderpal Singh, a police officer at GTB Enclave police station, confirmed the same. “The child was rescued and was handed over to the parents at 2 am. The crime branch team carried out the entire operation. A cop was shot at, but escaped due to his bulletproof jacket.”
On January 24, at around 7.40 am, a private van carrying 20 schoolchildren to Vivekanand International School in Anand Vihar was intercepted by two bike-borne assailants. The miscreants, after injuring the driver, fled with the child.
