Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who is the brand ambassador of the Clean India Campaign, recently oriented residents of Dwarka on effective ways of waste segregation and civic hygiene. Gambhir was addressing an event organised today by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) in Sector 23, Dwarka, which was attended by hundreds of residents and schoolchildren.
There have been times when Clean India Campaign has been embroiled in political controversy. Setting things into perspective, Gambhir said, “The campaign does not belong to a specific political party. It is of the nation and for the nation. The campaign should not be dragged into politics and the objectives it embodies should be enforced in our every life.”
Gambhir interacted with children of various schools and answered queries on waste management. He also urged them to have a balanced approach towards study and sports.
Addressing the gathering, mayor of SDMC and a resident of Dwarka, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, stressed on the necessity of adopting effective waste segregation practices. The event was also attended by additional commissioner of SDMC Nita Gupta.
The event witnessed some light moments too, with children performing a street play to spread awareness on waste segregation.
Ironically, most of the area councillors in charge of civic issues were absent from the event.
K Parashar, a resident of Sri Agrasen Apartments in Sector 7, said, “This absence is surprising and unfortunate. It signals a lack of involvement. Out of five councillors associated with Dwarka, only Kamaljeet Sehrawat was present.”
