In a bid to ease traffic congestion in the vicinity of the Vaishali Metro Station, the Ghaziabad police has installed retractable barricades on the sides of the road near the station.
Residents of the area have been complaining of severe traffic congestion for sometime now.
The unruly drivers of shared auto rickshaws which ply towards other areas of Ghaziabad are primarily responsible for the jams. Now the autos shall have to remain inside the barricading and will not be allowed to park on the roads.
So is the barricading a permanent and fullproof solution to the problem? Residents of Vaishali and regular commuters of the area have told City Spidey that the barricades have made a significant difference to the traffic situation. “However, now there is a need for the traffic police to guard the barricades so that auto drivers cannot sneak their vehicles in,” said Ratnesh Kumar, a Vaishali resident. SN Singh, SP Ghaziabad traffic, said that this barricade which is incidentally the first in Ghaziabad is an experimental one. The department needs over 500 to 600 barricades across the city.
