This time around, Ghaziabad will have a female mayor

The next mayor of the Ghaziabad municipal corporation will be a woman. Yes, it’s been decided. The post has now been reserved for a female candidate.

And it’s not just in Ghaziabad, but also in Meerut, Ferozabad, Varanasi, Kanpur and Lucknow.
In preparation of the soon-to-be-held municipal elections in Uttar Pradesh, the state government announced the reservation late Thursday night. The notification was issued by Manoj Kumar Singh, principal secretary, department of Urban Development; and the reservation has been made in accordance with the guidelines of the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1959. The post was also held by Damyanti Goyal, the first female mayor of Ghaziabad, fielded by BJP, in November 2006. She continued to hold office until November 2011.
However, the department of Urban Development has also made an allowance for objections to the issued notification. Objections can be submitted in writing to the Urban Development department in Lucknow until 5 pm, October 20. Apartment management software
The notification, however, has brought cheer to female residents of societies. Speaking to City Spidey, Shalvi Gupta, a social worker and a resident of Vaishali, said that a female mayor would have a better approach to urban problems. “Earlier we had Damyanti Goyal as mayor, who was known for her work. We expect something similar from the female mayor this time too,” she said.
Ghaziabad also currently has a female district magistrate, Ritu Maheshwari, and a female GDA vice-chairman, Kanchan Verma.
