I’puram: Why Amrapali Village had to hike its maintenance charges

The AOA of Amrapali Village, a residential society on Kala Patthar Road in Indirapuram, has had to spend over a lakh in addition to its monthly expenditure owing to disruption in the electricity supply to the society. Indirapuram News

The cause of the added expenditure? Diesel consumed by the generators, the society’s power back-up.

Speaking to City Spidey, RWA members said that apart from the minor loadsheddings, there have been two occasions in the last few days when the society didn’t have any power supply for several hours at a stretch. The diesel generators, they added, when on full load consume diesel worth Rs 20,000 an hour.
“The society had no power for 17 hours on one occasion, while another time the supply had snapped for over five hours. We had to arrange for around 4,000 litres of diesel to tide over the crisis!” lashed out Rakesh Kumar, AOA secretary.
“We have consumed almost half the amount, which cost us around Rs 1,25,000 — this is a sudden expense and a burden when funds are scarce. We had to increase the maintenance charges to meet our monthly expenditure,” Kumar added.
According to residents, the supply is getting disrupted quite regularly owing to a fault in a transformer located outside the society.
City Spidey took up the issue with the officials of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).

BS Raghav, executive engineer of UPPCL, said the repeated snags were a result of increased load in the power line — and not due to any laxity on the part of the electricity department. “The fault was repaired as early as possible and supply was restored. I have already written to the respective officials and the faulty CTPT metering unit will be replaced soon,” Raghav assured.
