Cracker ban and traffic jams have not deterred the Diwali fervour in Gurgaon

Even while there is a ban on the sale of crackers by the Supreme Court, the Diwali fervour is at its peak in Gurgaon. The roads are jam packed with commuters who are zigzagging across the city to shop and distribute the customary sweets and gifts to friends and relatives.

Some major spots of traffic congestion are Cyber City, DLF Phase 1, MG Road, Sector 14, Sector 31, Sector 50 and various parts of old Gurgaon. Gurgaon breaking news
“Today I had gone to the Sector 14 market for my Diwali shopping, which is essentially all about Rangoli powders and lights. Owing to the traffic jams, I took almost one and half hour to cover a distance of three kilometers. However, the commuting hassle was well worth the shopping I did,” said Mona Singh a resident of Sector 17.
These days, all the major streets of the city are contending with slow moving traffic. “Today preempting the rush, I went to my office in Cyber City on a bike. I managed to reach my destination within an hour and 15 minutes. By car the same distance would have easily entailed a couple of hours. However, am not complaining as during Diwali this is natural” said Rahul Rajan, who works for a multi-national company in Cyber City.

Despite being on their toes, the traffic police have failed to mitigate the traffic snarls.
Speaking to City Spidey, Simarjit Singh, DCP Traffic said, “We have increased the number of traffic cops for better management. Apart from 350 traffic policemen and 200 men from the home guard department, we have deployed two patrolling vehicles from each police station.”
However, despite all the traffic mayhem, people are happily soaking in the festival spirit.
