The officials of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) conducted a jan sunwayi [public hearing] for residents of Noida at Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra in Sector 6.
Residents of various societies and members of FONRWA participated in the jan sunwayi.
During the sunwayi, residents alleged that builders often deduct common area maintenance (CAM) charges from their prepaid electricity metres, which is against UPPCL norms. The Supreme Court, too, had earlier stated that maintenance charges cannot be deducted from the prepaid metre.
Amit Gupta, a resident of Prateek Wisteria, told City Spidey, “We have lodged complaints with the UPPCL that the developer charges 5 per cent under the 'electricity loss' category. It's not fair on us! The UPPCL should conduct monthly audits on the builder to enforce transparency.” apartment management system
Residents also asked for individual connections, so payments could be directly made to the UPPCL. “SK Aggarwal, president of UPPCL, agreed to our demand for individual connections. He said he would release an order to that effect within the next two-three months,” Gupta said.
Members of FONRWA also demanded reduction in average line losses in electricity. According to them, distribution losses have been to the tune of 19.65 per cent in 2014-15, which is quite significant. The average is expected to be around 15 per cent in the next couple of years and hence, they added, tariff too must be reduced accordingly.
NP Singh, president of FONRWA, said, “In Noida, connected load is 3,200 MW, whereas the supply is only 900 MW. It should certainly be increased to meet the growing demands of this city.”
