No middle-men in power supply business: NEFOMA

Noida Extension Flat Owners Main Association (NEFOMA) on Friday raised a policy change demand to Mahendra Kumar Singh, City Magistrate, Noida. Member of NEFOMA said the private builders who had taken power supply franchise from Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) had been flouting norms laid down by the power discom and fleecing customers.

Residents of several residential societies such as Amrapali Zodiac, Amrapali Silicon City, Aditya Urban Casa and Ajnara Grand Heritage met with the official at his office in Sector 19, Noida. Noida Local News
Led by Annu Khan, president of NEFOMA, the residents apprised the magistrate that power supply had become a profit-making business for builders. Despite collecting power tariff from the consumers in advance, they neither share power consumption bills with residents nor provide related services. Builders were even know to disconnect power in some flats. "We have submitted a memorandum to the magistrate and demanded from him to remove all builders from the power supply business," said Khan. "The power discom provides power to several sectors in the city and we would urged the district administration to explore the possibility of implementing a similar mechanism in our societies. The government should end all such middle men. Not only will it help us residents but also the government.” Noida News
To fulfil this resident demand, the UP government will have to renew its policy,  as with the current schemes, supplying power to multi-storey residents builder is not feasible.
Presently, the power discom supies power to the single-storey buildings and residents of such houses pay their bills to PVVNL. Apartment Management System

An officer with the power supply department told City Spidey that even though they could supply power to all households, collection of tariff would be a challenge. He had said that the power discom does not have effective mechanism to take readings from each of the meters installed in houses of  high rise buildings and present  them with electricity consumption bill every month.
The city magistrate assured that he would talk to the officers of the concerned department to look into ways to solve this problem.
