Entering and exiting The World Spa, a Unitech society in Sector 30, Gurgaon, is a nightmare for residents. And why wouldn't it be? The main lane leading to the society is chock-a-block with cars parked haphazardly. And this has been the case for several years now. Most of the cars belong to officegoers who work in the commercial establishments on either side of the lane.
"The situation is worst when I leave for work," said MK Das, a resident of The World Spa. "There are a bunch of shops that have come up over the years. They have worsened the situation. These shops attract a number of passers-by, who don't even realise that they are blocking the way. To add to that, there's a new liquor shop that's opened up. You can imagine what we guys have to go through."
Being a commercial hub, the place is preferred by small-business owne
rs. There's a bakery, a liquor shop, a daily vegetable market and dhabas that have sprung up over the years.
The 2-km lane is sandwiched between DLF Star Towers and BPTP Park Centra, commercial complexes with more than 200 offices each.
Ola and Uber cabs and auto-rickshaws are also parked in this lane.
Anil Kumar, an Ola driver, explained to City Spidey, “A lot of people book cabs these days, and since this is a commercial hub, we prefer staying in the vicinity. It helps customers reach us quickly. But unlike personal cars, we never leave our car. When there's traffic congestion, we take our cars away from the area and wait some distance away."
“We have received some complaints from residents of the society and are aware of the situation," said Balbir Singh, DCP (traffic). "Despite deploying tow-away vans, people still continue to park their cars on the road. We are tirelessly trying to make the traffic condition better."
