Residents of Sector 108, Noida, avoid stepping out of their houses after dusk, as the entire area plummets into darkness. This is owing to the fact that more than half of the sector's streetlights have been non-functional for the past six months.
Members of the sector's RWA said even the lights installed in their neighbourhood park have been out for months, encouraging antisocial elements to move in.
Vimlesh Pardhan, president of the RWA, said she had written several letters to Noida Authority officials seeking a solution, but there has been no change in the situation. “In the absence of adequate streetlights, residents are left with no option but to instal CFL bulbs outside their homes,” she added.
Indu Jain, vice-president of the sector's RWA, said residents do not feel safe to leave their homes.
When City Spidey took up the matter with PK Aggarwal, ACEO of Noida Authority, he said his team was carrying out repair work on all streetlights across the city and that the problem would soon be solved.
