With monsoons round the corner, residents and RWAs across Dwarka have a problem on their hands – one they have been telling the authorities about for many years now. Stormwater drains in the sub-city have not been cleaned, and neither DDA, nor SDMC seem interested in the problems residents might face.
Vinod Rawat, president of Metro View Apartments in Sector 13, said, "Stormwater drains here have not been cleaned for three years! We have written to the authorities about this, but nothing has happened. We can see stagnating water in the drains. Don’t the authorities understand this may lead to dengue and chikungunya?" dwarka local news
At Rihayashi Apartments, Sector 12, Pocket 7, even the drain covers are damaged. President of the RWA, Ved Prakash, said, "SDMC assured us that cleaning and repairs would be done this year, but so far there has been nothing. When we finally approached the mayor of the area, she said an estimate had been prepared for the work. Now let’s see what happens." dwarka news
Due to these choked drains, waterlogging is also a problem, especially in areas such as Sector 8. According to the RWA of the sector, the drains are full of filth. General secretary of the sector RWA and vice-president of Dwarka Forum, AS Chatwal, said, "Neither SDMC, nor DDA has done anything about the cleaning of the drains. The sector gets badly waterlogged in the monsoons. They should clean it as soon as possible."
