MCG continues with its anti-encroachment drive

The district and town planning (DTP) wing of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram carried a drive as part of anti-encroachment measures on May 25 and freed Subhash Chowk, New Railway Road, areas in Sector 12, including the bus stand, and nearby areas of street hawkers.

Sanjeev Maan, DTP, told City Spidey, “The commissioner, MCG, has formed four teams to free the roads, footpath and the market [from encroachers] in the anti-encroachment drive. These teams will take consistent action in different areas.”
The teams confiscated goods that were kept outside the shops of the street vendors. Maan added that MCG was serious about the issue of encroachments and would take all steps necessary to free roads and footpaths of encroachers.
Meanwhile, commuters have welcomed the drive. Rohit Lal, a resident of Sector 5 who works on Sohna Road, said, “I drive to my office, which is about 7 km from Sector 5. Encroachments make it really difficult to commute. It takes me over an hour to reach office.”
He added, “This issue cannot be addressed by a one-time action, but requires regular checks as the hawkers tend to come back within a week.”
Subhash Chowk is surrounded by sectors 38, 39, 46, 47, 48, 49, and 50. Encroachments hamper the smooth flow of traffic from Sohna Road and cause thousands of commuters going towards NH8 to get stuck in jams daily.
