Residents of high-rises such as Krishna Apra Gardens, HRC Professional Hub, Gaur Green City and Amrapali Green, in Vaibhav Khand, Indirapuram, are worried about the increasing number of petty crimes in the neighbourhood.
With two cases of chain snatching, three separate incidents of car theft, a robbery in Shipra Sun City, Vaibhav Khands residents are concerned both about their safety and the safety of the vehicles parked outside their societies at night.
Mohit Dwivedi, RWA president of Krishna Apra Gardens, told City Spidey, Last night, a Duster car [Renault Duster] parked near the rear entry gate of my society was damaged by two bike-borne miscreants who tried to open the car with a metal rod around 12.40 am. They managed to break open the rear windshield, but luckily one of the societys guards, who heard a loud bashing sound, hit the societys grill and yelled at them. The miscreants fled after that."
In the last week of February, Neha Goyal, a resident of the same society, fell victim to chain snatching. Her gold chain was snatched by a bike-borne miscreant who attacked her at 2 pm right outside the society. "The CCTV footage is also available in this matter. A man on a red bike waited for me to get down from the rickshaw and as soon as I got engaged in paying money to the rickshaw-puller, he came on his bike and snatched my chain," said Goyal.
In another incident that happened two weeks ago, two wheels of a car parked near Krishna Apra Gardens were stolen by miscreants. About five days ago, a miscreant snatched a mobile phone from an elderly man who was out for a morning walk in Tikona Park.
Residents are also concerned about the growing encroachments in the area that further pave the way for petty criminals, such as drug peddlers, who assemble next to cigarette kiosks and attract other anti-social elements.
Speaking to City Spidey, Jigyasu Pant, a resident of Gaur Green City, said that the situation has worsened recently. The stretch from gate no. 2 of Gaur Green City till Amrapali Green is the most insecure as it is completely dark and there isnt much activity in the evening hours.
We often hear people screaming on the road. They are victims of snatching or other petty crimes. We are unable to take any action as the miscreants flee before we can act. We had also approached the police over the issue, but the situation has not changed yet, added Pant.
Admitting that there have been several incidents of petty crimes in the area, Balram Yadav, incharge of Shipra police outpost, said that petty criminals, such as snatchers, were a major challenge in front of the local police.
We have started posting police personnel in plain clothes and have achieved some success in this regard. Around two such attempts were foiled and the miscreants were also nabbed in the last few days. Patrolling in those areas will be increased, added Yadav.
