The issues of garbage burning in an illegal garbage dump and lack of Ganga water supply once again dominated the meeting between the residents of Gaur Green City, Indirapuram, and local legislator Sunil Sharma on May 28.
Residents also highlighted the issues of pollution from eateries and food joints running adjacent to the society, the requirement of an open play area in the nearby green belt, encroachment and traffic mess in the area.
Discussing the issue with the MLA, residents said that they had already knocked all doors but have not been able to get their problems solved. They said that the garbage dump had made it difficult for them to live in the society and has forced them to keep their doors and windows shut. The problem could not be resolved as the space where the garbage dump located belongs to National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and is outside the jurisdiction of the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) and the municipal corporation.
The garbage dump will probably be removed as the widening of NH24 progresses towards Indirapuram, which is set to take at least several months. To provide a makeshift solution to the problem, the MLA assured residents that the area would be fenced with a net to bar people from dumping garbage.
Residents also raised the issue of a recent order passed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) barring societies from drawing ground water via borewells. Sharma said that he was already in talks with officials of GDA over the issue and the problem would be solved.
The MLA further urged the AOA members of the society to write a complaint letter regarding the restaurants and eating joints. He assured that in case of any illegality and violation, the shops would be sealed.
On the issue of a play area and traffic, the MLA said that it would be looked into once the widening work of the national highway was completed as the green area was near the highway construction area.
He also said that the state government was working on a solution for relocating street vendors and that the traffic congestion would get better once the part of the highway that falls in the area is widened.
Speaking to City Spidey, Malay Mazumdar, general secretary of Gaur Green City AOA, said that most of the issues were discussed in the meeting and that the meeting was a successful one as the MLA assured to solve the problems. “We expect that the problems will be solved soon,” Mazumdar added.
