Commuters availing the Kherki Dhaula toll, a huge bottleneck for
traffic between Gurugram and Manesar, will now find some respite. Three
more toll booths will be opened to the public from 9 am tomorrow.
An average of 85,000 vehicles cross the toll every day, each vehicle taking no less than 15-20 minutes to clear the toll.
Anil Kumar, a resident Bilaspur, who takes the toll every day, says,
“I am a real estate developer and have my office at DLF Ph IV. I leave
home at 9 am but can never reach office on time because of the jam at
the toll. The only time I don't find jams is in the early mornings.”
Pradeep Sharma, a resident of DLF Ph I, adds, “If you cross the toll
by 8.15 in the morning, there’s no rush. But from 8.30 am, there’s a
long queue.”
Non-office hours are no less a threat, with heavy rush of trucks during the night.
“Besides the toll booths, there are other factors as well. U-turns
available on both sides tend to hold up traffic. Locals, with passes,
get into arguments at the booth. These things add to the delay. But
let’s hope things will improve,” said Shalini Baweja, a daily commuter
from Sector 15 to Manesar.
